Representatives of the sit-in protesters in Lagawa in Sudan’s West Kordofan were dispatched to the capital Khartoum about ten days ago to meet top government officials, a youth activist said.
The envoys came from the group of residents who have been protesting continuously in Lagawa since 12 November, demanding better basic services before elections take place in April 2015.
Jalal Fadel-Moulah, a protester in the town’s square, told Radio Tamazuj that the committee had failed to meet government officials in Khartoum due to obstructions.
He said the team was planning to meet Second Vice President Hassabo Mohamed. The protester pointed out that the meeting would have discussed the need for improvements of water, electricity, roads, and education as well as health services.
He stressed that the protesters decided unanimously to boycott the upcoming elections if their demands are not fulfilled by the government.
