Lacking rabies vaccines, Aweil East health workers call for dog cull

Health workers have called for the county authority to issue a local order for dogs to be killed across Aweil East County in Northern Bahr al Ghazal State.

The move comes after a dog bit an eleven year old boy on Wednesday.

Earlier this year wild dogs reportedly bit eight people in Akuem.

A clinical officer in charge of Malualkon primary health care centre says that they don’t have any anti-rabies vaccines in the centre.

Yel Lual Malong also said that as a health worker he does not have the power to ask for dogs to be shot but urges the authorities to do so.

“I want to tell our government to look into it because we health workers we don’t have right to tell the communities to allow their dog to be shot. If the government can hear my voice I need them to help me because the government has power to tell the communities.”
