Lack of pesticides may fail Abu Jubaiha harvest

The deputy head of the Abu Jubeiha farmer’s union in Sudan’s South Kordofan state warned a lack of pesticides in the area may jeopardize this year’s harvest.

The deputy head of the Abu Jubeiha farmer’s union in Sudan’s South Kordofan state warned a lack of pesticides in the area may jeopardize this year’s harvest.

Saleh Asaker said in a press statement Wednesday that pests especially birds are spoiling the crops.

He said the Plant Protection Department has only one spraying plane only, which makes it difficult to fight swarms of birds that feed in the fields.

The current agriculture season in Abu Jubeiha would have been described as successful if pesticides are availed, Saleh said.

The farmer called on the national agriculture ministry and state authorities to quickly send more airplanes to spray the farms with pesticides in order to avert agricultural failure.
