Lack of money delays formulation of new constitution in Aweil

Members of the Aweil State Assemble could not pass the draft constitution into law due to lack of money, according to the state assembly speaker.

Members of the Aweil State Assemble could not pass the draft constitution into law due to lack of money, according to the state assembly speaker.

Speaker Deng Ayom Ayom told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the development of the draft constitution which has already been tabled for the first reading in the state parliament has stalled.

“The delay actually was just because of the national economic crisis. It has been presented by the minister of local government for the first reading but because we were lacking some other items like printing papers and incentives for the committee members, so the committee members could not work on the constitution,” said Ayom.

He pointed out that the state governor Yournew Wol use the current draft constitution.
