Jodi Jonglei, Minister of Information of South Sudan’s Jonglei State says that a peace and reconciliation conference in the state has been delayed due to lack of funds.
However, Jonglei told Radio Tamazuj that the state government is working to avail the money as soon as possible in order to convene the peace conference.
He further said different communities in the state are ready for peace and reconciliation. He noted that the Nuers in Bor are still living in the UN base because the peace conference is not yet held.
During a Christmas day address in Bor town last year, the Governor John Kong Nyuon disclosed that some national government officials who hail from Jonglei rejected plans for the conference and reconciliation.
He said the conference was supposed to bring together different communities to the state capital Bor to discuss how to live in peace. In a separate interview with Radio Tamazuj, Minister Jodi Jonglei also confirmed that some officials elsewhere opposed the conference plan and cancelled the funding for it.
But the minister vowed the government in Bor will proceed with the conference anyway.
