The government of Kuwait has donated 10 million USD for the construction of a women’s hospital in Juba, South Sudan, the Health minister, Dr. Riek Gai Kok disclosed.

Kok told reporters in Juba on Thursday that the health facility will be built at Gudele Block 7.

“The construction of the women’s hospital is going to benefit residents, mostly women living in Gudele, New Site, Munuki, Gurei and Nyakuron. We are also requesting the government of Jubek to allocate land in Gumbo-Sherikat for us to put a health center because it has a big population needing health services,” said Kok.

He added, “We shall start the project as soon as we get the land”.

For his part, Jubek State minister of Physical Infrastructure, Francis Swaka said many citizens have lost lives due to poor health services.

“Our people have been dying because of poor health services and we thank the government for of Kuwait for this offer. We have mothers and sisters who are suffering and they need good health facilitates. It is going to benefit people especially those around here,” Swaka said.

“We should support development. Our nation is still young and a lot of things, especially on human health, need to be done,” he added.

The construction of the hospital, Swaka said, will take two years.

The health system in the world’s youngest nation faces growing health needs amid limited resources allocated by the national government.
