Caretaker Governor of Northern Bahr al Ghazal State Kuel Aguer has ordered the postponement of collection of the social household tax in the state, describing the order as a way to help reduce the suffering of the poor.
Kuel’s move comes after a political struggle within the ruling party in the state earlier this month.
In a gubernatorial decree dated 23 January he ordered “postponement of collection of the state households tax 2015 until the return of the State Legislative Assembly to session.”
“This is to reduce suffering of the population in the state,” he said, citing failure of the agricultural season of 2014, high prices of sorghum in the market and widespread poverty.
