The administration of Kordofan University in Sudan’s North Kordofan State have resolved to close the institution and suspend studies until further notice after days of violence as a result of disputed student union elections.
The number of students injured during the bloody clashes rose to 40.
Organized forces ordered students to vacate university hostels and arrested unknown number of students in connections with the violence.
Meanwhile, the state government has reportedly arrested 90 people in connections to the violent clashes saying they have no any relation with the university.
Othman Saleh, a lawyer in al-Obied, told Radio Tamazuj students were ordered to vacate their hostels without preparations for their relocation, adding that unknown numbers of students were arrested by the police.
He called on the government authorities to immediately investigate incidents that led to the killing of two students, treat those who were injured and take responsibility of relocating the students vacate from their hostels.
He also called for the immediate release of arrested students in connection to the incidents or take them to court.
