Konga blames ‘Jubek’ govt for Mangala clashes

Former Central Equatoria state governor and presidential advisor for special affairs Clement Wani Konga has blamed the government of the proposed Jubek state for the clashes that erupted in Mangala county on Saturday.

Former Central Equatoria state governor and presidential advisor for special affairs Clement Wani Konga has blamed the government of the proposed Jubek state for the clashes that erupted in Mangala county on Saturday.

The attack resulted in the killing of four people and injuries of seven others.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, Konga said the attack was due to a dispute between the proposed Jubek and Terekeka states over Mangala which lies along the proposed border of the two proposed states.

Konga claimed that Mangala belongs to Terekeka since the period of the Sudanese President Jafar Al-Nimeiri in 1974.

He added that Jubek state could have celebrated the inauguration of the new Mangala County commissioner in another place instead of Mangala.

Konga also denied that he has any militia involved in the attack, saying weapons are spreading in hands of the citizens in South Sudan.

The so-called Jubek and Terekeka states were once all part of the unified Central Equatoria state.

Jubek is inhabited by indigineous Bari people, while Mundari people dominate Terekeka. Konga is from Mundari.
