The first mobile court has finally been established in Koch County, Unity State, a local official said.
Biel Waar, State Advisor for Justice, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the court will ensure residents access justice without travelling long distances.
Waar explained that the mobile court team will be in the county for thirty days to review pending cases in efforts aimed at delivering justice to residents.
“The court will look into major cases, including; murder, rape and armed robberies. We will start looking into these cases immediately because some have been pending for more than two to three years now,” Waar said.
David Jany Yak, a member of the state legislative assembly, welcomed the establishment of the mobile court adding that it will assist in solving the backlog of cases of suspects in the prisons.
Jany also called for the return of the state judiciary and to carry out its activities from within the state to supplement the efforts of the mobile courts.
Gattuor Chan Makuac, Director General at the State Ministry of Gender and Social Welfare hailed the establishing of the mobile court.
He said it will boost efforts in delivering justice to inmates who have been to prisons without trial.
Makuac urged members of the local communities to refrain from violence to avoid litigation before the courts, which take a long time to resolve.
