In a shocking incident on Friday, a woman lost her life in an altercation with a police officer over an alcohol dispute.

Rose Sura, a mother of two children, was fatally stabbed by the female police officer, identified as Alice, during an evening confrontation.

The victim had accused the suspect of consuming her alcohol without payment. The incident has sparked heightened tensions between the victim’s relatives and the suspect, causing anxiety within the local community.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Zilipher Dawa Justin, the County Commissioner for Mundri West, urged residents to refrain from seeking revenge. Dawa assured the public that the suspect had been apprehended and emphasized that the legal process would be followed to address the matter appropriately.

“So the issue of this woman will be handled. It is in the hands of the government and no one should take law into his or her hands. No one should move from another county with mobilisation for revenge. I don’t want to hear that. All of us are one people of Greater Mundri, let us understand ourselves because it looks like the devil is the one who tempted those people to kill themselves,” he said.

“But the law will take its course, it shouldn’t be put on everyone. About the killing of this woman, my message to people in Mundri is, everyone staying in Mundri is a member of the communities in Mundri,” he added.

The commissioner stressed that the incident was an isolated case and called on the public to resume their daily activities, as the situation was under control.

“As your leader, I ask all citizens to return to their normal lives. Everyone should carry out their duties, and business owners should reopen their shops. However, due to recent events, we will implement nightly patrols from 8 p.m. to maintain order. I advise against unnecessary movements during the night,” concluded Dawa.

Separately, a prison officer was discovered deceased beneath Mori Bridge on Saturday morning, just outside Mundri town. The local police authorities were unable to provide further details on this incident at the time of reporting.
