South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Monday urged international backing for the peace process, which is mediated by the regional bloc IGAD in Addis Ababa.
Kiir said this during a dinner party organized at the State House in Juba Monday evening on the occasion of Easter. The event was attended by ministers, advisers and foreign diplomats.
Kiir said the international community must back the peace process and that the opposition should work for peace in South Sudan.
He further said that the opposition parties must accept the option of peace to reach a deal on transitional arrangements that will lead to elections in the country.
The South Sudanese leader called on foreign diplomats to support the peace process and national dialogue to restore peace and stability in South Sudan.
The country’s president acknowledged that peace cannot be realized without international backing, urging the opposition to cooperate on matters related to peace and stability in South Sudan.
