Kiir to visit Khartoum for talks with Bashir

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir will visit Sudan soon to meet Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

Both South Sudan and Sudan accuse each other for supporting rebels in each other’s country. South Sudan foreign affairs spokesperson Mawein Makol said these allegations will be a topic of discussion during the visit.

Mawein confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Monday that Kiir will travel to Khartoum in the coming days, but could not give the exact date.

Mawien said the meeting of the two presidents will also focus on Abyei, the disputed area between the two countries.

Earlier this month, Sudan said it will include Abyei as a constituency in its upcoming elections.

The Ngok Dinka community, one of the groups who lives in Abyei, held a referendum voting to join South Sudan. Neither country recognized the vote.

The planned visit comes after al-Bashir invited Kiir to Sudan for discussions.
