Kiir spokesman says enemies used pictures of flag upside down in Egypt after rectification

Ateny Wek Ateny, who speaks for President Salva Kiir denied on Friday that the Egyptians government had compromised her diplomatic obligation in recent reception of the president.

He also downplayed upside down display of the flag, saying” enemies” continued to use the pictures after rectification was made.

“The Egyptian government has not impinged on its international obligations and State diplomacy. The enemy of South Sudan who took pictures of the flag being hoisted upside down 3 hrs before the arrival of the President, still in what appeared to be for the sake of attention seeking, shared the pictures on Facebook, therefore triggering an outrageous responses amongst our beloved citizens”, said Ateny in a statement on Friday.

He said “our Embassy in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and of course the Office of the President's advance team has noticed and rectified the inadvertently hoisted South Sudanese Flag upside down by the Egyptian State Protocol 3 (three) hours before President Kiir's arrival to Cairo. Notwithstanding, the rectification of what would have been embarrassing turn of event to the Principal, had it not been for the resilience of our men/women in our mission in Cairo, and that of the presidential advance team in rectifying the problem before it was too late”.

Ateny, however, admitted that the Office of the President of the Republic of South Sudan has noted the concerns of its citizens and takes it into due consideration
