South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Friday issued a decree firing the Deputy Governor of Warrap State and appointed a replacement.

In a presidential decree read on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir fired Debora Odul Okeich from her position as the deputy governor of Warrap State.

In another decree, Kiir appointed Aluel Garang Garang as the new deputy governor of Warrap State. Aluel and Debora are both members of the Other Political Parties (OPP), a signatory to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.

The South Sudanese leader also fired the Warrap state minister of finance, Madut Tong Akol,  and the chairperson of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, Gabriel Anyar Madut.

The president cited powers bestowed upon him by the country’s transitional constitution and the 2018 peace agreement to make the changes.
