Kiir sacks Lakes governor, Ruweng administrator

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a decree removing the governor of Lakes State and the chief administrator of Ruweng Administrative Area.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a decree removing the governor of Lakes State and the chief administrator of Ruweng Administrative Area.

The decree announcing the immediate removal of Governor Makur Kulang and Chief Administrator William Chol Awalith did not give any reason. The two officials were appointed by the president in June 2020.

The presidential decree broadcast by the official South Sudan television (SSBC) went into effect on June 8.

In another decree, President Kiir appointed Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor as the new governor of Lakes State. Tueny was serving as the director of military intelligence. The president also appointed Peter Dau as the new chief administrator for Ruweng Administrative Area

In a separate decree, the president appointed Lieutenant-General Marshal Stephen as the new director of military intelligence.
