Kiir sacks interior minister and governor

South Sudan's President Gen, Salva Kiir Mayardit issued presidential decrees yesterday sacking his Interior Minister Aleu Ayieny Aleu and Northern Bahr al Ghazal Caretaker Governor Kuel Aguer Kuel.

Both decrees were read over the state-owned television.

Kuel had been exiled from his home state Northern Bahr al Ghazal since January when he had a dispute with General Paul Malong, chairman of the SPLM in the state.

He was an appointed governor and not an elected one. Kuel and three other governors in South Sudan have continued to serve as the de facto governors beyond the 60 days term allowable by South Sudan's constitution for unelected governors.
