Kiir’s spokesman accuses opposition of planning to fail South Sudan

The SPLM-IO is deliberately undermining South Sudan to move it under a United Nations administration, a spokesperson for South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir told Radio Tamazuj.

The SPLM-IO is deliberately undermining South Sudan to move it under a United Nations administration, a spokesperson for South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir told Radio Tamazuj.

The statement comes when the government has continued its campaign against a temporary administration, which has been proposed by some experts.

“The opposition is seeking to destabilize South Sudan so that the country can be a failed state under the protectorate of the United Nations. So this is what the opposition is doing, especially the extremists who reject the appointment of Gen. Taban Deng Gai,” said Ateny Wek Ateny.

The government is committed to peace deal, Ateny told Radio Tamazuj.

When asked about the agreement to let foreign forces into South Sudan, Ateny said they accepted a protection force, and not intervention troops.

For his part, Lam Akol Ajawin, former agriculture ministry in the unity government, welcomed the IGAD decision to deploy regional forces in South Sudan, but questioned the government’s political will to implement the deployment of the protection forces,

“The problem is the implementation. Would it be implemented or it would just remain ink on paper?” Akol said.
