Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Ateny Wek Ateny, South Sudan’s presidential spokesman, said that the SPLA-IO forces in Upper Nile and other parts of the Equatoria region have already been assembled as per the security arrangements in the signed peace agreement.

  Ateny, who is also the presidential press secretary, commended the East African regional bloc IGAD for supporting the current unity government led by President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Taban Deng Gai to implement the signed peace accord.

The official described the armed opposition groups that are fighting against the government in Central Equatoria State as small pockets and terrorists.

“There are small pockets of criminals and terrorists that are killing people in Central Equatoria. SPLM-IO troops are stationed in Upper Nile State and other cantonment sites in Bahr al Ghazal,”said Ateny.
