President Salva Kiir on Friday evening revoked the appointment of James Deng Wal as a member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) National Liberation Council (NLC).
The President, in a decree broadcast on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), announced Peter Kuot Jiel as the replacement.
The South Sudanese leader did not give any reasons for the changes.
President Kiir, who has been in office for over a decade, was endorsed by the party to run for president in elections due to be conducted in about two years.
In September, President Kiir and the parties to the 2018 peace agreement announced the extension of the transitional government for another two years, meaning general elections would be held in December 2026.
