Kiir removes South Sudan police inspector general Pieng Deng

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir removed the nation's inspector general of police, Pieng Deng yesterday, according to state TV viewers, who reacted on social media, citing the decree.

Pieng is replaced by Makur Marol Aduot, they said. Kiir's change of the country's top cop comes shortly after the SPLM-In Opposition of Riek Machar chose the interior ministry, which oversees the country's police service, as one of its ministries to lead during the proposed transitional government of national unity.
