President Salva Kiir Mayardit said today that the resolutions of the just-concluded National Dialogue Conference will be incorporated in the permanent constitution of the country as it reflects the views of South Sudanese.
The president was addressing the closing ceremony of the two-week National Dialogue Conference at the Freedom Hall in Juba on Tuesday.
Kiir said, “There is no doubt that the outcome of the National Dialogue represents the views of the broad cross-section of our society on the issues raised. This means there is no question about the legitimacy of this process."
“We need to remind ourselves that what has been produced in this process must be harmonized by the permanent constitution-making process, which is provided for in the revitalized peace agreement," Kiir said. "The revitalized peace agreement is not merely an integral part of our constitution, it is in itself our fundamental law itself, and all other processes including the national dialogue must be ultimately be reconciled with it.”
On his part, Angelo Beda, the co-chair of the National Dialogue Committee while inviting the president to address the conference called on him to implement the resolutions.
"I want to say one thing. Everybody here is looking forward to your excellency that me, on behalf of them, that even if the resolutions are controversial please implement them," Beda said.
Beda also appreciated the president's financial support throughout the national dialogue process which culminated in the national conference attended by more than 600 participants from all walks of life and every part of the country.
However, SPLM-IO and NDM led by opposition leaders Dr, Riek Machar, and Dr. Lam Akol respectively did not participate in the conference saying the revitalized peace agreement supersedes any other process and instead called for its comprehensive implementation.
