President Salva Kiir has appointed a presidential adviser on Islamic affairs to replace al-Tahir Bior Ajak who died in February this year in the capital Juba.
In a decree announced yesterday night, Kiir appointed Sheikh Juma Saeed Ali as the presidential adviser on Islamic affairs.
The decree came into effect as of September 6.
Majority of South Sudanese follow Christianity or traditional religions but an estimated 6% of the population is Muslim.
