Kiir, Machar to meet again in Khartoum

Sudan’s foreign ministry said that a new round of peace talks between South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar would take place next week in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Sudan’s foreign ministry said that a new round of peace talks between South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar would take place next week in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

“It has been decided that the next face-to-face talks between South Sudan’s two leaders will take place on June 25 under the auspices of President Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir,” spokesman of Sudan’s minister of foreign affairs, Garib Allah Alkhidir said in a statement on Thursday.

Al-Khidir further said arrangements are underway to transfer IGAD's technical staff to Khartoum to provide support.

The statement came after President Kiir and rebel chief Riek Machar met in the Ethiopian capital this week, the first time the two leaders had met since 2016 when fighting erupted in the capital Juba.
