South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has left for Kigali, Rwanda, where he is set to attend the inauguration ceremony of his counterpart, President Paul Kagame.
Last month, President Kagame won general elections in the East African nation.
Kiir was seen off at Juba Airport by First Vice President Riek Machar, cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
On Sunday, President Kiir who is the chairperson of the East African Community (EAC) will be joined by other world leaders attending the inauguration of President Kagame to service his fourth term in office.
President Kiir’s Press Secretary Lily Adhieu Martin said President Kiir is expected to attend such an important event within the region. She said the two leaders are also expected to hold bilateral meetings and discuss regional peace and stability.
Lily pointed out that the visit highlights the importance of regional collaboration in addressing common challenges and advancing collective goals for the East African community.
President Paul Kagame will be sworn in on Sunday, in a ceremony that promises to be a grand celebration of his enduring leadership.
The event, to be held at Amahoro Stadium, is expected to draw a crowd of over 40,000 people, including more than 23 Heads of State from across the continent.
The inauguration ceremony will feature a spectacular military parade, showcasing Rwanda’s well-trained forces.
In addition to the military display, traditional dance performances will highlight the rich cultural heritage of Rwanda, adding a vibrant and festive atmosphere to the proceedings.
President Kagame, who is 66 years old, has been at the helm of Rwanda since 2000, leading the country through a period of remarkable transformation.
