South Sudan`s Presient Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday embarked on a one-day visit to Rwanda for a regional peace meeting.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, Press Secretary Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel said the visit aims at discuss ways of ending growing tensions amongst the East African Community member states.
The statement further indicated that Kiir is also to proceed to Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo respectively to meet with their leaders to settle their disputes amicably.
The statement said President Kiir’s visit comes amid escalating tensions in the Great Lakes region.
During his departure at Juba International Airport, the President was seen off by First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other senior government officials.
