Kiir heads to Khartoum for peace talks

President Salva Kiir travelled to Khartoum, Sudan, on Monday morning for the second round of talks with rebel leader Riek Machar.

President Salva Kiir travelled to Khartoum, Sudan, on Monday morning for the second round of talks with rebel leader Riek Machar.

The South Sudanese leader left the Juba Airport this morning and was seen off by senior government officials. He was also accompanied by a high-level delegation.

Kiir’s office made no any official statement regarding the trip to Khartoum.

President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar are expected to meet in Khartoum under the auspices of Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir around 10 a.m. to resolve outstanding issues on governance and security.
