Kiir government releases journalist Mading Ngor

Security forces loyal to President Salva Kiir have released journalist Mading Ngor from custody after detaining him while he was covering a peaceful protest in Juba.

The journalist was not charged with any crime but was held from Wednesday until yesterday.

In a statement on his Facebook page he said, "Friends, relatives & well-wishers. I am out from the ordeal. Thank you all for your support."

He also called for the release of other people whom he said were jailed in South Sudan for "laughable" reasons, naming five individuals.

Last November the same journalist was beaten and detained overnight by soldiers of the presidential guard force. Radio Tamazuj was told by a family member that the presidential guard were involved in his detention again this time.
