Kiir fires Pibor chief administrator

South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday night dismissed the Chief Administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) as well as undersecretaries in the Ministries of Justice and Culture.

In a decree broadcast by the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), President Kiir removed Gola Boyoi Gola from his position as GPAA Chief Administrator, appointing Peter Maze as his replacement. The president did not provide a reason for Gola’s dismissal, who had only been appointed to the role in April 2024.

Kiir also removed Dr. Gabriel Isaac Awow and Amer Madol Majak from their positions as undersecretaries in the Ministries of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and of Culture, Museum, and National Heritage. They were replaced by Mary James Ajith Awol and Malong Majang Malok as the new undersecretaries for the respective ministries.

In additional decrees, Kiir relieved Eng. Kon John Akot from his position as Director General of the Petroleum Exploration and Production Authority within the Ministry of Petroleum, appointing Eng. Lual Chol Dak to succeed him.

The president also sacked Captain David Subek Dada, Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority, naming John Woja Elinana as his replacement.

In another decree, Kiir dissolved the Board of Directors of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority. The previous board members included Geisha Akol Tong (Chairperson), Gen. Akol Koor Kuc (member), Gen. Thomas Duoth (member), Gen. Yien Makuac (member), Gen. Malek Ruben (member), and Captain David Subek Dada (Secretary).

Kiir then reconstituted the board, appointing Addis Ababa Athow as Chairperson, with members including the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, the head of the Civil Aviation Authority’s legal team, the Commander of the Air Force, a representative from the National Security Service’s Internal Security Bureau, Maria Lotua (business management), and John Woja Elinana as Secretary.
