Kiir fires C. Equatoria State governor, W. Equatoria deputy governor

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday night sacked Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday night sacked Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.

In a decree read on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC), Kiir appointed Gen. Augustino Wani Jadalla as the new Central Equatoria State governor.

Gen. Wani once served as the governor of the defunct Jubek State before the 32 states were reverted to the 10 states. He also served as national deputy Interior minister before that.

He graduated from Wadi Seidna Military College as an officer in 1983 and served under the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) until 1992 when he joined the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA). He played an active role in South Sudan’s liberation struggle and commanded various units including being instrumental in the capture of Yei from SAF in 1997.

In another decree, Kiir also fired the deputy governor of Western Equatoria State Kennedy Gaaniko, and replaced him with Elia Richard Box.

Both officials who were fired are members of the Sudan People`s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Party which is led by President Kiir

The decree did not give any reasons for the changes.
