South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir issued a decree on Friday removing his top legal advisor, Telar Ring Deng, who served as Presidential Advisor on Legal Affairs.

No explanation was given for the removal of the presidency official, who has now been assigned to serve in Moscow as ambassador to Russia.

Telar Deng at least once previously had a falling-out with Kiir, who stripped him of his SPLM party membership in 2007. Eventually Telar was restored as a party member in 2009, and since has served in several senior positions.

Meanwhile, Kiir has also made several other ambassadorial appointments, according to decrees announced on the state-run television SSTV on Friday.

Garang Diing Akuong, South Sudan’s former trade and industry minister, and Emmanuel Lowilla, the former minister in the Office of the President, were posted to the United States and China respectively.
