President Salva Kiir has ordered the governors of 28 states to move to their headquarters, according to a government official.
Minister Mayik Ayii Deng said that the order was intended to speed up the implementation of the peace agreement, and encourage the return of displaced civilians across South Sudan.
“War has stopped and peace has come. It is time to implement and therefore all the leaders, including the state governors have to work from their headquarters to lead implementation programs”, Deng said in an interview.
It is unclear how governors who are assigned to areas under opposition control will proceed.
