South Sudan President Salva Kiir has directed the National Ministry of Finance to help revive the country’s economy, vowing to support the institution.
Speaking at the swearing ceremony of the new deputy finance minister Goc Makuac on Tuesday, Kiir urged the finance minister and his new deputy to work hard in order to put the economy back on track.
“I want you to work hard to correct the situation we are in, and I will be behind you. If there is anything I can do, I will do it,” Kiir said.
For his part, finance minister Salvatore Garang Mabiordit said the people of South Sudan have high expectations, urging his new deputy to work hard to help develop the private sector.
Jemma Nun Kumba, Acting Secretary General of SPLM, urged the new deputy minister to work based on the values and policies of the ruling party.
