South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir left Juba Tuesday morning for Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, to address his party’s rally there.
Kiir, who also doubles as the chairperson of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), is expected to address a political rally and celebrate his endorsement as the SPLM flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
In December 2024, South Sudan is due to hold general elections, the culmination of a 2018 peace agreement.
Currently, supporters of the ruling party in the greater Bahr el Ghazal region have already gathered in Wau town to receive President Kiir.
According to the Presidential Press Unit, Presidential Affairs Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin said Kiir’s visit to Wau will be followed by similar tours to the states in Equatoria and Upper Nile regions to interact with the electorates, and deliver to them a message of hope, peace and unity.
