South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has delayed formation of a new cabinet to allow for more consultations.
Kiir is holding meetings with leaders of political parties, religious leaders, civil society, and other opinion leaders, as well as top SPLM officials, said presidential advisor on decentralization and intergovernmental linkage, Tor Deng Mawien.
“All the stakeholders are being consulted to get their inputs and ask them their opinions about what they expect from this reform,” Tor said. “The president wants to form an all-inclusive government and people-centered government.”
The adviser said Kiir has already met with the ten governors in order to listen to their views and tell them about his plans.
“He wanted to put them in the picture. Perhaps there will also be changes in the states,” Tor said.
The presidential aide said he knows nothing about the possibility that Kiir will transfer state governors as a strategy to remove leaders perceived as not standing by him politically.
