South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has directed the newly-appointed Governor of Warrap State, Francis Marial Abur, to swiftly address the violence plaguing the region.

At the swearing-in ceremony on Friday, President Kiir made a poignant plea to the new Governor, urging him to harness his political authority and elder status to foster a climate of peace and unity in the state.

“You must find amicable solutions to the issues in Warrap,” President Kiir stated.

He also called for an end to revenge conflicts, highlighting the need for stability and safety, especially for vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly, as he embarked on his gubernatorial duties.

The President’s remarks came as intellectuals from Warrap expressed their hope that Governor Abur would unite the communities, advocating collaborative efforts with all the stakeholders in the state.

The Head of State’s appeal underscored the urgency of building a peaceful environment, directing the Governor to act decisively as both a leader and a community elder to restore stability in Warrap.

Francis Marial was appointed as Governor of Warrap State on Wednesday, following the revocation of the appointment of the former director general of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service (NSS), Gen. Akol Koor Kuc, as Governor.

The presidential decree revocating Gen. Akol’s appointment as state governor in less than a week did not give any reason.
