Kiir appreciates President Museveni’s continued solidarity

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has appreciated Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni for his continued solidarity with the government of South Sudan, according to Ugandan media.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has appreciated Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni for his continued solidarity with the government of South Sudan, according to Ugandan media.

Kiir’s message was conveyed by South Sudan’s army chief James Ajong to President Museveni. The message commended Museveni for the continued support and solidarity with the government of South Sudan on Tuesday.

Museveni has met a delegation of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), led by General James Ajong Mawut. During the meeting which took place on Tuesday at the State Lodge in Mbale Municipality, President Museveni and General Ajong discussed security cooperation and training between the two countries.

However, details of the talks were not made public.

Uganda, a key ally of President Kiir, fought alongside South Sudanese government forces against rebels after the outbreak of civil war in December 2013.The Ugandan troops pulled out of neighbouring South Sudan as part of the 2015 peace deal signed in Addis Ababa.

Uganda is also host to over one million refugees fleeing from the ongoing war in the world’s youngest nation.
