President Salva Kiir Mayardit has taken a significant step by appointing a seasoned technical advisor to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Through a decree broadcasted on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC), President Kiir introduced Mary Akec Bior as the distinguished individual who will assume the role of technical advisor to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Citing Article 106 (a), 2(a) of the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan 2011, the President emphasized the legality and relevance of this appointment.

This appointment gains prominence against the backdrop of South Sudan’s ongoing challenges, notably the surge in the number of returnees and refugees from Sudan, a consequence of the conflict eruption in April.

The Humanitarian Ministry has disclosed staggering figures, indicating that more than 200,000 individuals, encompassing both Sudanese refugees and South Sudan returnees, have sought refuge within the country’s borders since the commencement of the conflict in April.
