Kiir and Mogae discuss need for inclusive dialogue in South Sudan

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and Festus Mogae, Chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) on Friday discussed ways to conduct an inclusive national dialogue in the country.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and Festus Mogae, Chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) on Friday discussed ways to conduct an inclusive national dialogue in the country.

In a joint statement after the meeting, Mayiik Ayii Deng, Minister in the Office of the President, said that President Kiir had assured the JMEC delegation that the national dialogue is a complementary process to the peace agreement in South Sudan.

He further said Kiir stressed the need to consolidate peace in the country.

For his part, Festu Mogae pointed out that he met with Riek Machar in South Africa where he asked him to denounce violence and engage in dialogue with the government.

Mogae further said Machar rejected his idea, adding that they also talked about humanitarian access across the country.
