The commissioner of Kideopo Valley County in South Sudan’s Torit State is calling on the state government to urgently send medical supplies to the area.

Peter Lokeng Lotone told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the newly upgraded Cahari Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) lacks health personnel, medical supplies, and medicines.

“Cahari has been upgraded as PHCC but they have not given us the human resources in that place to work. There are no drugs there. All health units in Kideopo Valley refer patients to Cahari or Isohe of Ikotos County,” he said.

Lokeng explained that transferring patients to Cahari is a challenge due to bad roads and lack of an ambulance to rescue very ill patients.

He lamented that in many cases pregnant women end up dying before getting to the health centre or due to lack of health personnel.

“Women are suffering because we don’t have an ambulance, no drugs in the county and even no human resources who can help. We are requesting that this community be helped in the health sector,” he added.

The commissioner appealed to both national and state health partners to intervene and avoid further deaths.

Meanwhile, Lokeng urged the state government and partners to construct a secondary school in the county, saying students have to travel to far places to be enrolled in schools.
