Sudan’s government is expected to change the composition of its delegation for peace talks with the SPLA-North rebels, a negotiator said.
The government team also announced its readiness for a new round of peace talks soon. These announcements come after directives by the country’s First Vice President Bakri Hassan Saleh to start the negotiations as soon as possible.
Many rounds of negotiations on South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions have stalled as viewpoints between the two sides remained far apart. Rebels demand a so-called holistic solution for the Sudan crisis, while Khartoum rejects this approach demanding to limit negotiations to the Two Areas.
Abdurrahman Abu Midien, member of the negotiating team, said slight changes in the membership of the negotiating team will be made in the next round of talks.
He confirmed their readiness to negotiate based on a clear and consistent agenda and position in order to come up with a solution to the problem of the two regions.
Abu Midien told state-run media that they are now waiting for the African Union mediation to announce the start of the new round of talks at any time.
The Sudanese Minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Osman recently announced his government’s readiness for talks with opposition parties including armed movements after the formation of a newly reshuffled government by President Bashir.
