Khartoum students protest in solidarity with S. Sudanese peers

A number of students from the International African University in Khartoum went on protest today in front of the university building complaining against the withdrawal of the scholarships that had been granted to South Sudanese.

The scholarships had provided free education with monthly allowances. The university administration has withdrawn these scholarships and allowances and it now expects that South Sudanese students pay university fees.

Protesters complained that the university administration had not given clear reasons for the change of policy. Police forces dressed in military uniforms intervened and dispersed the protesting students by force.

No injury was reported and no one was arrested, according to students who participated in the protests.
