A 30-year-old South Sudanese woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer is pleading with members of the public to assist her in paying the cost of treatment.

Josephine Anthony Ajak, a mother of three children, was diagnosed with breast cancer at a hospital in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Josephine was well until earlier this year when she began complaining of a pain in her right breast and noticed a lump, which prompted her to travel to Khartoum from Malakal. She had been living in the Malakal IDP camp since 2019.

“The first operation was done in the last five months for the removal of sebaceous cyst. But when I came to Khartoum it was confirmed as breast cancer,” she said. “Last week, the doctors decided to carry out the surgery.”

According to Josephine, the cost of treatment at El-Zarra Cancer Hospital is 700,000 USD, which is equivalent to 1,500 USD.

The South Sudanese patient said any assistance rendered to her in receiving treatment is appreciated.
