Khartoum’s security delegation arrives in Juba

Sudan sent a team of top security officials to Juba today for talks with their South Sudanese counterparts. The delegation enjoyed a warm reception, according to the Sudan News Agency.

The Sudanese delegation is headed by Maj-Gen. Siddiq Amer, head of the military intelligence service. He will be the co-chair of the talks together with South Sudan’s Maj. Gen. Mac Paul.

Dr. al-Mu’iz Farouk, secretary for the Joint Political and Security Mechanism, said that he hoped that these meetings will lead to positive results in advancing the implementation matrix signed between the two countries in March, especially the security aspects of the deal.

Farouk said that the delegation will also meet with the SPLA Chief of Staff Lieutenant General James Hoth Mai, followed by a Ramadan Iftar starting after the meetings.

The delegation also includes Chief of the Joint Operations Staff Lt. Gen. Imad Eddin, and Deputy Director-General of Intelligence Saleh Al Tayeb.
