Residents of Khartoum city on Sunday complained that the prices of essential commodities in markets have risen sharply during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, several local residents also complained that the government has increased the electricity and water bills this month.

They pointed out that Muslims feel the pinch when they buy food items and other consumer goods at inflated prices, saying they were not informed about the increase of the electricity and water bills.
