Khartoum official: We want to see SRF implement ceasefire on ground

Sudan’s government says that it is awaiting the Sudan Revolutionary Front to implement the ceasefire that it recently announced, following an earlier unilateral declaration of ceasefire by Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir.

A government source quoted by the official Sudan News Agency on Thursday said that the Revolutionary Front’s declaration of consent to the cessation of hostilities is consistent with Bashir’s announcement of a ceasefire in order to create a conducive environment for political dialogue and alleviate the suffering of the people in conflict-affected areas.

The source said that if the SRF announcement of ceasefire is implemented then the parties along with the African Union could prepare for the beginning of the National Dialogue.

Sudan’s rebel SRF said the six-month ceasefire would allow for delivery of humanitarian aid. Bashir’s ceasefire was given a timeframe of two months.
