The delegation of Sudan to the Addis Ababa talks issued a paper in which it explained its positions on the outstanding disagreements with South Sudan. The paper comes after South Sudan published more than a week ago a detailed ‘Proposed Agreement on Friendly Relations’.

Negotiations under the auspices of the African Union continued today past the 2 August deadline set by the UN Security Council. The Sudans’ economies depend largely on resumption of oil production which was shut down in January.

The paper contained basic principles of negotiation on public security, borders, oil and associated payments and arrears, non-oil trade, citizenship and residency issues, and the Abyei area. Additionally, it reaffirmed that the basis for Sudan’s positions is its commitment to the peaceful resolution of all issues required in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005.
