Khartoum health center reports rising food poisoning cases

The Emergency Response Room in Al-Haj Yousif suburb of Khartoum has announced a high number of food poisoning cases at the Dar Al-Salam Health Center.

The emergency room confirmed in a statement received by Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that widespread food poisoning had affected the Dar Al-Salam area, Block 4.

The statement pointed out that initial tests indicated that residents had consumed expired food items.

The medical report issued by the Dar Al-Salam Health Center stated that the food poisoning victims would arrive vomiting as early as 8AM. The center had so far handled 50 cases, according to the report.

The report linked the food poisoning to the consumption of milk and fried dough (zalabiya).

A staff of the Al-Haj Yousif Emergency Room, Sabir Al-Jack, told Radio Tamazuj that some patients mentioned contaminated water as a possible cause of the poisoning.

Al-Jack indicated that the Al-Haj Yousif Emergency Room had issued an urgent call for medical staff from nearby centers to help alleviate the pressure on Dar Al-Salam Health Center.

There was a strong response and the incidences were managed through first aid, he said.

Al-Jack added: “All patients were discharged except for three cases that were transferred to Al-Ban Jadid Hospital in Al-Haj Yousif.”
