The Voluntary Work Commission in Sudan’s Khartoum state announced a plan to transport about 160,000 South Sudanese refugees outside the capital as soon as possible.
Mohammed Mustafa Sennari, the head of the commission, said in a press statement that arrangements with regard to moving the refugees are going smoothly. Mustafa accused the refugees of causing problems at Naivasha camp in Umbada residential area
The state official pointed out that the refugees will be relocated to production areas in Gezira and Gedaref states instead of relying on aid assistance provided by the United Nations.
Meanwhile, the deputy head of the refugees commission Mohammed Yasin al Tohami said they had a meeting on the matter with the parliament’s social affairs committee.
Al Tohami pointed out that the number of refugees stands at 700,000 with about 4,000 living outside camps.
For his part, the head of the parliament’s social affairs committee Mohamed Ahmed Shayib said they will summon the interior minister and ministers concerned about the mechanism used for counting the number of refugees in Sudan.
