Khartoum court sentences student to death over alleged murder of policeman

A Sudanese criminal court sentenced a student belonging to the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) to death by hanging on Sunday for the alleged killing a policeman during protests last year.

A Sudanese criminal court sentenced a student belonging to the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) to death by hanging on Sunday for the alleged killing a policeman during protests last year.

Assim Omar Hassan, who was facing charges under the article 130, was arrested since 3 May 2016 during student protests at the University of Khartoum.

Hundreds of students and relatives protested outside the court in Khartoum against the ruling. Several Sudanese activists and members of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party criticized the court ruling.
